Prepare, correct, protect

Find the conditions that put a grocery store at risk

Official inspections can be unannounced, and an unresolved imminent health hazard can lead to a temporary permit suspension. USCBI helps management identify and correct real conditions before they threaten customers, the public grade or continued operation.

Independent—not the health department

USCBI does not issue permits, grades or closure orders. We do not provide advance notice of a government visit or help conceal violations. We inspect independently, document the conditions we observe and give your team a practical plan to improve food safety and inspection readiness.

What we inspect

  • Deli, bakery, meat, seafood and prepared-food department controls
  • Walk-ins, display cases, temperature logs and refrigeration condition
  • Produce handling, receiving, storage, rotation and recall procedures
  • Cross-contamination, allergen, sanitizer and employee-hygiene controls
  • Hot water, plumbing, pest entry, waste areas and facility condition
  • Department-level findings and management corrective-action tracking

We also perform pre-opening, ownership-change and remodel readiness reviews. These reviews can identify equipment, plumbing, ventilation, sanitation-surface and workflow problems before opening, but they do not replace government plan approval or permitting.

    Immediate notice

We alert management promptly when we observe a condition that may present an immediate health or closure risk.

    Photo-documented report

Findings identify the location, observed condition and why it matters so repair vendors and staff can act.

  3. 03

    Prioritized correction plan

Items are separated into immediate closure risks, major food-safety concerns and routine improvements.

  4. 04

    Optional follow-up

After corrections, we can return to document what was completed and identify remaining concerns before an official visit.

A downgrade can add correction time and county re-score fees

San Bernardino County publishes food-facility closures from the previous two months. Its grading rules require a C-grade facility to correct deficiencies and request a re-score inspection within 30 days.

The county's published re-score form lists $245 per hour with a $122.50 minimum for the first 30 minutes. That is a county fee—not USCBI pricing—and it does not include lost sales, discarded inventory or emergency repair work.

The review prioritizes grade-impacting conditions, re-score readiness, refrigeration performance in inland heat, vermin exclusion and practical correction documentation.

What a temporary closure can cost

The county fee is only one part of the impact. A closed facility can lose operating days and perishable inventory while paying for emergency pest control, plumbing, refrigeration or sanitation work. Payroll disruption, delivery cancellations and a publicly visible downgrade can extend the damage after the doors reopen.

USCBI inspection pricing is quote-only. The fee depends on square footage, operating complexity, number of food departments, records review, travel, urgency and whether you request a follow-up visit.

FAQ

San Bernardino County grocery store health & safety inspections questions

Is USCBI part of the San Bernardino County health department?

No. USCBI is an independent third-party inspection company. We do not issue permits, grades or closure orders, and we do not guarantee an official inspection result. We organize findings for prompt correction and follow-up, but only the county can issue or change an official grade or authorize reopening.

What does a grocery store health and safety inspection cover?

We review food-safety operations, refrigeration and hot-water performance, sanitation, plumbing, pest-entry conditions, employee practices, required records and the physical facility. The scope is adjusted to the operation and departments on site.

Will the report identify the most urgent corrections first?

Yes. Findings are organized by immediate closure risk, major food-safety concern and routine improvement, with photographs and a practical corrective-action list for management.

Can you inspect before opening, remodeling or taking over a business?

Yes. We can review the facility, installed equipment and operating setup before opening or a change of ownership. Government plan approval and permits still come from the appropriate agencies.

How much does a grocery store inspection cost in San Bernardino County?

Pricing depends on square footage, operating complexity, the number of food departments, records review, travel, urgency and whether a follow-up visit is requested. Call 619-473-2133 for a scope and quote.

Can USCBI reinspect after corrections are made?

Yes. An optional follow-up visit can verify completed corrections and remaining concerns before an official visit. It does not replace a county reinspection or authorization to reopen.
